THE PEOPLES IMPROV THEATER —
SPECIAL WEEKEND WORKSHOPS IN COMEDY

SNL Sketch Writing Workshop 2010
Both Sections Sold Out!

Dates/Times: Fri. April 23 & Sat. April 24, 2010 from 7pm - 10pm or
Sat. April 24 & Sun April 25, 2010 from 2pm - 5pm

This two day workshop is for anyone who has ever thought about writing sketch comedy for stage or television. If you've got the ideas and want to know how to build a sketch, this class is for you. This class will demystify what an SNL sketch looks like, what a "packet" for SNL or MAD TV consists of and what "readers" are looking for in a "packet." The class will focus on a commercial parody for the first day (which you will bring to the first class) and a two person/5 page sketch for the second day. As one of the only former SNL writers teaching in the country, Ali will give you a clear concise point of view of someone who has been in the belly of the beast in a fun and nurturing environment. Ali has taught this class to over 700 people. (Class limited to 14 people) 2 days-3 hrs/day. Register
Tuition: $195.00

2 Day Advanced Long Form Improv Workshop 2010
Dates: April 24 - 25, 2010
Times: Sat & Sun from 10am - 1pm

This workshop is for anyone with extensive training in Improv or who has already studied with Ali before. The class will focus on helping you to "Act like Yourself" on stage, meaning, if you can be who you are off stage, while on stage, in the context of the scene, that's the journey of the Improviser whose goal is to find their own voice on stage. Entertain yourself and you'll entertain others. The first day will have an emphasis on scenes and editing, and the second day we will delve into longform. (Class limited to 16 people) 2 days-3 hrs/day. Register
Tuition: $180.00

Characters & Dialect
Date TBD
Expand your improv artillery! Discover the different dimensions of character inside yourself, on the spot! Drawing from theatre and improv methods, you'll explore a new realm of character types, with emphasis on theatrical, believable, and "real world" characters. Continuing to build on the characters in your repertoire, we will focus on breaking bad habits, self awareness, and creating good scene work. Possible Dialects to work on: North American (East Coast, Midwest, Southern, Canadian), British, and Romance Languages. (Class limited to 12 people) 2 days-3 hrs/day. Register
Tuition: $180.00

Musical Improv
Date TBD
You don't have to be a good singer to create great songs-on-the-spot. (In fact, you really don't have to sing at all.) This class breaks down the fundamentals of songwriting and shows you how to use them to easily compose instant hits. Group games and exercises make for a safe, supportive and fun environment that will have you improvising everything from hip-hop to showtunes before you know it. Prior musical and improv training are not required for this course. (Class limited to 16 people) 2 days-3 hrs/day. Register
Tuition: $180.00
